The Quest

What your week looks like

Mornings: hike & Deep Dive

Every morning starts with a beautiful hike, for a good start to the day. You walk, you talk, and then you dive into the theme of the day with our psychologists: stress, patterns, relationships, self-care, choices and what really matters to you.

Afternoons: into the city

In the afternoons you join workshops we know are good for your mental health. You sing, you dance, you play rugby, you get a kickboxing clinic. You do yoga on the beach, cycle through a community and step onto a surfboard. Guided by inspiring role models from Cape Town who use exactly this every week to strengthen resilience in their own communities.

Everything is taken care of

Your accommodation, breakfast and lunch, programme transport and your airport transfers both ways. All you need to book is your flight. (So who knows, maybe you add a little holiday afterwards.)

The programme

What your Mental Health Quest in Cape Town looks like

Every day has its own theme, and each one builds on the day before. The rhythm stays the same: a morning hike, a Deep Dive, an afternoon workshop and dinner together in the evening.

See the day

You arrive in Cape Town. We pick you up from the airport and you check in at the accommodation. The rest of the day is yours, to recover from the journey and settle in. Whoever feels like it can come and eat with us in the evening, for a first taste of the city. The real programme starts tomorrow.

See the day

Today is about getting to know each other, the programme and the city you are a guest in this week. You get a short Deep Dive into (un)safety and how it affects how you think, learn, connect and respond. In the afternoon you cycle through Khayelitsha with Khaltsha Girls Cycling, who show you their neighbourhood from the saddle, and we finish the day with a picnic together.

See the day

Today is about what shaped you. What you learned growing up. What helped you adapt. What you still carry with you. And what might deserve to change now. In the afternoon, we join Imana Community Choir. Voice, music and singing give us another way to work with memory, expression, belonging and connection. You do not have to sing well. You just have to join in. And magic will happen.

See the day

You learn about your patterns under stress: fight, flight, freeze & please. And most importantly, what you can do once you recognise your own. Then Jason from Just Planting Seeds takes us onto the rugby field. A contact sport is a quick way to find out what you do when someone comes at you, and what you do when the team needs you.

See the day

Today is about other people. Connection. Trust. Shame. Giving. Receiving. And why relationships can sometimes bring out the best and worst in us. In the afternoon, Carlene and her team from Tenacity Movement take over. Through movement and dance, you experience connection, expression, rhythm and what changes when you stop thinking about how you look and start moving with other people.

See the day

What actually restores you? What drains you? And what do you keep calling self-care even though it does not really seem to be working? Today is about stress, recovery, rest and self-compassion. Then Bongi from Thembisa Ratanga meets us at one of Cape Town's Clifton beaches for yoga and breathing. After that, the afternoon is yours. Stay on the beach. Swim. Read. Sleep. Go for lunch. Explore. Your call.

See the day

Avoiding something is what keeps it frightening. Today you learn how that works, and how to take small steps towards the things you have been walking around for years. In the afternoon, we head to Muizenberg to surf with Small Things Foundation. You will fall, get back on, and fall again, in front of everybody. Which is exactly the kind of small step we mean. Trying is the point.

See the day

Goals are about what you want to achieve. Values are about who you want to be while you do it. Today you explore what actually matters to you, and whether your choices reflect that. In the afternoon, Butterfly Art Project takes us into a creative workshop. You use colour, shape and making to explore what matters without needing the perfect words for everything.

See the day

How do you keep all of this once you are home? Today you look back at the week and make a concrete plan for what you want to continue, change or do differently. But we are not doing that sitting inside all day. We hit the road for one of Cape Town's most beautiful routes, we have the coolest surprise activity along the way, eat somewhere good and close the Quest together.

See the day

Breakfast together one more time, and then we take you back to the airport. Or you stay a little longer to explore more of beautiful South Africa: the Cape, the Garden Route, or wherever you want to go next.
