Avoid

being the next headline

Whether you work as an HR or People & Culture lead, team lead, executive, founder, board member, or DEI lead — if you’re responsible for a team or a workplace, you know it:

A team member is struggling and you don’t know how to help. Someone reports concerning behaviour, and the response you were taught doesn’t quite fit the moment. A loss, a conflict, or a serious incident lands — and suddenly the team feels heavy, and the words don’t come.

Those are the moments most leadership training doesn’t prepare you for.

You improvise. Or wait. Or hope it resolves on its own.

It’s not that you’re not capable. It’s that no one ever taught you how to meet these moments — with the right words, the right next step, and without sacrificing the team or yourself.

That’s where we come in.

Why this

matters

When hard topics get handled well, teams get stronger. People stay. They speak up earlier. They trust their leaders — and themselves. When they don’t, the cost shows up everywhere: in burnout, in turnover, in quiet quitting, in a culture that erodes from the inside, and sometimes in a headline you never wanted your organisation to be part of.

The good news: this is learnable.

The reality in

numbers

$ 1.000.000.000.000
(1 trillion!)

lost globally every year to depression and anxiety at work.

89% of employees

say psychological safety is essential. Only 26% of leaders create it.

1 in 4 workers

has experienced violence or harassment at work.

Most of this never makes it into the team meeting. People don’t speak up — until they leave, until they break, or until it becomes a public story.

That’s where you come in.

When your workplace is built to hold the hard stuff, you don’t manage crises — you prevent them. You don’t lose people — you grow them. And when something does happen, you handle it.With clarity, with care, and without losing the team.

Why work

with us?

Three reasons people working with children choose Ukomelela — again and again.

01

Built by psychologists who've actually done this work

We’re psychologists who’ve spent years in real organisations, with real teams. We’ve sat with leaders the day after a complaint, with HR mid-burnout, with founders carrying things they couldn’t yet say out loud. What we teach isn’t drawn from a textbook — it’s drawn from the rooms we’ve been in.

02

You learn by doing — not just by listening

We don’t believe in trainings you forget by Friday. Our approach rests on four pillars:
UNDERSTAND the science. MOVE with it. MIRROR what you see in others. CONNECT with real people in real community. By the time your team leaves, the tools aren’t just in their notes — they’re in how they show up the next morning.

03

Your team's growth multiplies — through double impact

Every team programme supports a free training spot for a local professional working with children in an under-resourced community — through our non-profit partner Train for Change. So while your team grows, somewhere else, a community grows too. It’s not just professional development. It’s purpose.

Where you'll feel at

home

Here's the kind of professionals who keep finding their way back to us.

Every team programme you book

grows another team too.

We deeply believe that doing good business and making real impact can — and should — beautifully co-exist. That where your team learns is also a statement of what your team stands for. And that the strongest workplaces are the ones built around something bigger than themselves.

When your team trains with us, a team of professionals working with children in an under-resourced community gets the same programme — through our non-profit partner Train for Change.

Your team grows stronger together. Their team grows stronger together. And somewhere in between, a piece of the mental health gap gets closed.

There’s something wonderful about a workplace that doesn’t just talk about purpose — but actually builds it into how it learns.

How to

start

Whatever fits your team best — pick your path and we'll meet you there.

01

Find your starting point

Choose from four formats: in-company trainings, tools, team experiences abroad, or the upcoming Online Academy.

02

Not sure where to start?

03

Show up. Practise. Take it home.

One-day workshop, 8-day journey, or a custom multi-month programme — your team learns by doing, and walks away with something they use the next week.

04

Keep growing

After your programme, your team stays in our community of leaders, HR, and team builders navigating the same things.

Everything you need to know

Any team or organisation that wants to handle hard topics well. HR and People & Culture leads, team leads, executives, founders, board members, DEI leads, agency leads, and anyone responsible for a team or workplace — across corporate, scale-ups, creative agencies, NGOs, schools, healthcare, hospitality, and the public sector. If your work involves people, our programmes are built for you.

Yes — we have accreditation pending with SKJ (Stichting Kwaliteitsregister Jeugd) for our core trainings. We'll happily apply with other professional registers on request. Where relevant, your team's participation counts as official professional development hours.

Pick the format that fits your team's size, budget, and goals:

  • In-company — we come to your team and run the training together. Around one of our existing topics, or a fully custom topic built around what your team actually needs.
  • Open enrolment — individuals from your team can join one of our scheduled live trainings in the Netherlands.
  • Online Academy (coming soon) — team licences for self-paced learning, around the topic you choose.
  • Abroad — through our impactful team experiences in South Africa or Zanzibar, where your team learns alongside other teams and local role models. The kind of experience that builds shared language and culture, not just skills.

Both Dutch and English. In-company trainings are available in either language — your choice. Open-enrolment trainings in the Netherlands run primarily in Dutch. Our team experiences abroad and most South Africa-based work run in English.

Yes. Each team member receives a certificate of participation. For accredited trainings (SKJ pending), the certificate also confirms professional development hours.

Costs depend on the format and the size of your team. In-company programmes are quoted per project, tailored to your team's needs and budget. Team experiences abroad include training, accommodation, food and local activities — pricing varies by destination and duration. Book a free intro call and we'll send you a tailored proposal within five working days.

That's exactly what the free intro call is for. 30 minutes, no pitch — just a real conversation about where your team is, what you're seeing, and what you need. We'll point you toward the right starting point, even if that's free resources rather than a paid programme.
